Why Does Your New Deliverance Serum Feel Empty? (Spoiler: It’s Not)

If you’ve recently ordered a new bottle of Deliverance 3-in-1 Repair Serum, you might’ve had a little freak-out. You unboxed the product, held it in your hand, and thought, “Wait. Is there anything even in here?”

You can breathe a sigh of relief. We might’ve lowered the price and switched to aluminum packaging, but we didn’t change the amount inside the bottle. Your 30mL bottle contains exactly 30mL of serum, and your 60mL Jumbo size contains exactly 60mL. 

However, you’re not imagining things. Compared to the old packaging, the new bottle feels almost weightless.

Why the Aluminum Bottle Feels So Lightweight

Deliverance is formulated with soothing cannabinoid and peptide complexes, and to make sure these ingredients are potent, they can’t be exposed to air or light. Plastic packaging needs extra inner shells or a thick inner coating to block out the elements and keep the serum stable. And even though plastic is a lighter raw material than aluminum, it’s structurally weak. We had to use a lot more material to make the old Deliverance bottle’s walls thick enough to be sturdy. 

Aluminum, on the other hand, is incredibly tough and rigid even when it’s paper-thin. It requires a lot less physical material to create a secure and solid container for a serum. Aluminum also naturally blocks out air and light, completely eliminating the need for all those extra layers of packaging while still keeping the formula secure and protected. 

The numbers show that these thinner, aluminum walls make a big difference. 

• Empty 30mL Plastic Bottle of Deliverance: 36.97 grams

• Empty 30mL Aluminum Bottle of Deliverance: 25.68 grams

• Empty 60mL Aluminum Bottle of Deliverance: 28.29 grams

The 30mL aluminum bottle of Deliverance uses 11.29 grams less packaging than the 30mL plastic bottle. And opting for the 60mL jumbo aluminum bottle instead of two 30mL aluminum bottles cuts out 23.07 grams of packaging material. 

You might be wondering…if aluminum is so great, why didn’t we just use it to begin with? Well, certain active ingredients can be less stable in aluminum—they react to the metal, causing the formula to oxidize and lose efficacy. These ingredients include antioxidants like cannabinoids, a key ingredient in Deliverance. That’s why we went with the “safe” choice at first: an opaque, plastic, airless bottle.

It took us years of stability testing to discover that we could switch to a non-airless, 100% recyclable aluminum canister without sacrificing safety, protection, and formula efficacy.

Why the Packaging Change Is Worth It

We didn’t switch Deliverance’s packaging from plastic to aluminum just to shake things up. We’re committed to using 100% recycled aluminum and less plastic whenever possible (this is part of our Better Trash™ ethos).

Aluminum can also be recycled an infinite number of times, unlike plastic, which, if we’re being honest, we won’t be able to fully eliminate from every product or from our future pipeline. 

We aren’t perfect, but we aim to do better wherever we can when it comes to creating our products and packaging. 

So, the next time you pick up your Deliverance bottle, remember that it’s the same clinically-tested formula you know and love, just with less packaging material. (And a lower price tag.)
